Sadie's Saints Peg Doll Introduction and Giveaway!

I didn't expect the little peg dolls that I made the girls as party favors for Sadie's birthday party to be such a smash hit.  They've quickly become Mae Bae's all time favorite toy.  She carries two of them around with her constantly.  She tosses them in the air and listens as they smash down upon the ground with a smile.  She hides them in any place large enough to fit them (there's a small tray below one of Nani's tables and I've learned that the dolls like to hang out there), especially if said hiding place is right at Mae Bae's eye level.  

Sadie, on the other hand, doesn't bring her dolls out nearly as often, because she's seen how her sister plays with her own dolls, and is pretty sure she doesn't want her own dolls receiving that sort of treatment.  She's now hidden her own dolls by the bed, and plays with Mae Bae's pink dolls when Mae is awake, while watching her sister's crazy antics.  Sadie's dolls tend to make an appearance when Mae isn't around (which, lets face it, is only at nap time).  

When I began thinking of making peg dolls I scanned around the internet to see what was out there and I found some extraordinarily beautiful peg dolls in various stores.  Yet I had a hard time picturing paying around $20-$30 for a peg doll, regardless of how beautiful it was, because I wasn't quite sure I could hand both paying $30 for a wooden peg and watching Mae Bae hurl it with all of her strength at the stove to see what sort of sound it would make.  

So I decided to come up with something that was simpler than what was already out there, but that still represented some of our favorite saints (I have a huge list of saints I'm planning on making in the coming months and I'm definitely open to suggestions).  After hemming and hawing for quite a while over price I finally settled on $8 for the more detailed dolls and $6 for the simple Mae style dolls (those aren't yet posted and won't be saint dolls).  I'm planning on eventually putting up listings for larger quantities, like 2 dolls for $14 (2 for $10 of the simple ones!) or 5 for $30.  

I'm also hoping to get up some of the doll storage rolls up (like the ones I made the girls for the party) once I have a few more dolls on the shop.

I Just Can't Take it Anymore Review and Giveaway!

There's a little book that's been sitting on top of a pile of cookbooks in my kitchen (the safest place to protect it from the little hands who I know would love to flip through the pages and look at all the pictures!) waiting to be reviewed.  I received it, along with a copy to giveaway here, a couple of months ago, and have "meant" to read it and review it and host the giveaway pretty much every week since it arrived in the mail.

Somehow though, after officially being put on bed rest at 7:30 last night by my doctor, I can't help but think that I was meant to read this little book now and not a moment sooner.

Anthony DeStefano has written a couple of my favorite books.  Sadie pretty much had This Little Prayer of Mine memorized at the age of two.  So I'm always thrilled to see he's releasing a new book (and even more excited when I get a chance to review them here!).

His Latest, I Just Can't Take it Anymore! tells you on the cover that it's "Encouragement When Life Gets You Down."  It's a sweet gift book that's perfect for anyone who's going through a difficult time because it helps shift the perspective from our own suffering (and sometimes questioning of why God is allowing something to happen) and leads us to away from the mentality that God should be insulating us from all suffering if we do the right thing.

He reminds us in simple understandable language both of the beauty in this world and how God often uses our suffering to remind us to depend on him and to form us into the person that we know deep down that we need to become.  The book goes on to point out that Jesus suffered and turned that suffering into the most wonderful gift imaginable and that if we hold on and take our hardships one moment at a time, we may find that God is turning our pain into something wonderful too.  (book photo from Amazon.com)

A Snood For All Seasons Snood Giveaway: The Blue Floral Cotton Snood

I made a few changes to my store this morning and to celebrate I'm having another giveaway! I dropped the price of my dupioni silk snoods to $22 and the linen snoods went all the way down to $17!

A Snood for All Seasons One Month Giveaway: And the Winner is...

I can't believe I forgot about it this morning! Today is Friday and that means it's been a week since the one month anniversary of A Snood for All Seasons and it's time to draw (and announce) the winner of my snood giveaway. I used random.org to generate a number and this is what I got:

A Snood For All Seasons: 1 Month Anniversary Giveaway!

Today is A Snood for All Seasons one month anniversary. I'm pretty excited because I have thirty snoods up on the shop as of this morning, and thirty snoods (plus the sales) means that, while I haven't met my goal of sewing three snoods a day, I have sewed at least one a day!

I was actually planning on doing several giveaways when I first opened the shop, but I got so swept up in making as many snoods as I possibly could that the giveaways got put on the back burner for a bit. However, this morning is the first giveaway! Here are some pictures of the snood I'm giving away today!

One of the things I tried to show with these pictures is that there's more than one way to wear a snood. For a fuller look I have my hair down. The snood looks a bit fluffier when I wear my hair under it in a bun (which is usually the most practical thing for me to do). And it can also be tied to look rather tichel-like if you wear a bun and wrap the matching ties around and secure them under your bun.
