The Record Searchlight: A Sadie Frown for The Worst Paper in the North State

I don't know what I was expecting from the Record Searchlight...

Journalistic integrity for a paper that has proven over and over again that it doesn't have an ounce of integrity?

The Record Searchlight, one of the largest papers in the far North State, spent the last eight years smearing one of my family members. The journalism was reckless and irresponsible. There was never any semblance of impartiality as they took the word of meth heads and druggies and ran with the stories as if they were the gospel truth.

Today I posted a comment on one of their stories, pointing out that the trial had gone in our favor and that maybe... just maybe... they could cover that.

After all, they'd been very liberal in the comments section about what they would allow and had allowed the same girls that perjured themselves in court to spout their lies online.

They quickly removed my respectfully questioning comment (and have yet to acknowledge the outcome of the case).

If you are in the North State, try to avoid giving this rag a penny. The Record Searchlight isn't accountable or responsible for what they print. There are plenty of smaller newspapers in the North State that are in touch with their readers and that realize that their words have consequences and that they should be careful to print the truth. The Record Searchlight definitely doesn't score well in the investigative journalism department. And they do any even worse job of owning up to the mistakes they've made.

Now back to your regularly scheduled blog... I just had to get that off my chest...

Edited to add: They did finally post my comment (usually it's instant). It only took half a day. I wonder if they'll write an article about the outcome. It may be asking for too much...

  1. Have you written their competitor? :)

  2. I wish they had a competitor! They're the only newspaper of their size in our area...

I love comments and I read every single comment that comes in (and I try to respond when the little ones aren't distracting me to the point that it's impossible!). Please show kindness to each other and our family in the comment box. After all, we're all real people on the other side of the screen!
