My Sewing Project: My First "Me" Dress

I've made myself two simple skirts, but this was my first big project attempt at sewing a dress for myself. Tomorrow's my birthday and I wanted a "birthday dress." Here it is:

  1. Now that is a very loud color Cam! Paul will be able to spot you from across a crowded room.

  2. It is! I actually ended up with this color because I had the fabric that I'd bought for Sadie and I had so much of it I decided to "experiment" with sewing satin. And now I have a hot pink dress!

  4. You did a great job on it. Is Paul doing something special for you for your birthday?

  5. Good job on the dress! And satin?! Wow, that's impressive, I'm sure it was slippery to work with!

  6. Thanks guys! I think we're taking the girls to the park and meeting my family there for pizza and cake and then going to a nice dinner tonight with everyone.

The satin actually ended up being easier to sew than I expected. I think it was because the satin was usually facing itself, and the back side wasn't really slippery at all! It was definitely a pleasant surprise because I was worried since I pretty much have a very basic sewing machine with a regular foot on it!

  7. Great job! When you can, buy a bolt of cheap muslin fabric. Make a muslin mockup of whatever you are trying to make and get the flaws out that way. While it's extra work, it's cheaper in the long run, plus you have the added benefit of of quick sewing on the "good" fabric.

Take your time and all will turn out pretty.

I love comments and I read every single comment that comes in (and I try to respond when the little ones aren't distracting me to the point that it's impossible!). Please show kindness to each other and our family in the comment box. After all, we're all real people on the other side of the screen!
