Gigantic: 17 Weeks

Yesterday's headcovering photo shoot was a... challenge... to say the least.  Nani and Grumpa were at a class, Paul was at the library, and Mae Bae was upstairs napping, so Sadie and I headed out to the porch with the baby monitor and got to work.  I balanced the camera on various surfaces, programmed it to snap a picture after ten seconds and tried to position myself with each headcovering at a pretty angle.

After struggling to find a spot with not too bright and not too dark lighting I came to another conclusion.

I am gigantic.

Not gigantic for 40 weeks.  But for 17 weeks...  gigantic.

And I'm wondering how a person can have a bump this size when over the course of said 17 weeks, they've only gained 6 lbs.  A redistribution of weight?  A massive redistribution of weight...

Which leads to other questions, like:

How big is this baby going to be?  Are we going to beat the girls 9 lb + weights?  How big will I be in another 23 weeks?

If I hadn't already had like 5 ultrasounds I would be suspicious that there was more than one in there...

  1. Have you ever thought of looking into whether you have a condition called diastasis recti (separation of the abdominal muscles)? Often the muscles of your abdomn are too weak or spread too far apart to hold your uterus in, so you end up looking much larger than you are. I look full term by six months, easily. The condition can be corrected with hard work and diligent application of special exercises. Check out Julie Tupler's site at www.diastasisrehab.com/. She has a simple test for diagnosing and measuring your separation.

  2. I don't think I do because in the past when I'd read about it there's an indication that there's some sort of a gap between the muscles, and I can feel mine where they go right together still. And afterwards it goes away pretty quickly so I'm back in my regular clothes almost instantly...

I think it has more to do with our giant babies!

  3. I think a lot of how big someone looks while pregnant has to do with the length of their torso. People who have a shorter torso (compared to their height) tend to look bigger faster because they don't have as much room to grow up, so they grow out in front and as their uterus grows it pushes all their other organs out in front as well. People who have a longer torso may not not stick out as much because their uterus has more room to grow up and they have more room for their other organs..things just aren't as crowded.

  4. I think you look great! I also have big babies and my midwives told me to be proud that I grow such healthy big babies. You should be proud!;)
