A few weeks ago Sadie and I were going over prayers that she's learned and when we went through everything I could think of, I mentioned a prayer that I'd learned when we were on our pilgrimage to Israel. A week later Sadie began demanding to learn the "little prayer" and trying to say it on her own. After asking me to repeat it about a hundred times she began saying the prayer (in Hebrew) on her own. It's pretty much her favorite prayer of the moment, and since I had the camera out this morning I just had to ask her if she wanted to say it. And of course, since the camera was there, she added "cheese!" at the end:
Do you mind if I ask for the text and the translation?
ReplyDeleteAnd, I'm new to your blog, but I very much enjoy reading your posts!
Hi Jennifer (and welcome!)-
ReplyDeleteThe Hebrew is: Sh'ma Yisrael Adonai Eloheinu Adonai Ehad
which translates into- Hear, O Israel: the Lord is our God, the Lord is One
there's a bit more information on it here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shema_Yisrael
