The Missing Post

After following yesterday's blogosphere drama today and reading all the comments and all the things various bloggers said in comboxes I had to take down yesterdays post.  I hope no one gets fired but the whole thing is just out of hand.  I'm not sure why people think that personal attacks and a level of rudeness they'd never use in real life are okay in comment boxes.  The whole thing gives me an icky feeling in the pit of my stomach.

  1. Didn't see them but support your decision whole-heartedly. I truly don't understand why people become so rude at times.... sigh...

  2. I think that one thing which could be said with confidence about all this is that the evil one is certainly hard at work!

  3. Personally I think it is the evil temptation of the internet feeding itself.

I explained to my husband what was going on and he said, "That is why people shouldn't post stuff like that on the internet." I had to admit, he had a point. I mean, I would hope if "The Jerk" were standing in front of Mr. Voris and Fr. Z, he would speak with more charity and respect. There is this temptation of the internet, as I know you and Calah and countless other have seen in their com boxes, where people think because it is the internet that they can say whatever and it won't matter or have much consequences and the same is true of Simcha's readers who thought such a post justified the catty attempt to get her fired.

The internet can be so impersonal and yet there is always a real person on the other side of the screen.

I saw Simcha's latest post and I'm glad her editor seems to be so reasonable, but I also hope maybe Simcha and "the jerk" have learned a little something. :)

  4. I think you did the best thing possible.

And it makes me sick to my tummy too. I like it better when we all work together to pray and make life miserable for the evil one.

I love comments and I read every single comment that comes in (and I try to respond when the little ones aren't distracting me to the point that it's impossible!). Please show kindness to each other and our family in the comment box. After all, we're all real people on the other side of the screen!
