Testing 1, 2, 3 (or two thin blue lines!)

Today is a very special day for our family. It's Saint Martin de Porres feast day. And because of what's happened on two of the last three years on this particular day, Saint Martin is the patron saint of our family:

"Mommy, what's that in your hand?"

"Daddy, why do you have a camera? Mommy said no pictures!"

"I'm gonna get the camera Daddy!"

"Gotcha!"

"Mommy I tried to get the camera from Daddy, but he just keeps snapping away!"

"Daddy, you're as bad as the paparazzi!"

But that was all in fun! Sadie helped us relive the joy of the day in pictures!

You see, three years ago on this day our lives changed drastically when we took a test just like the one I'm holding in my hand in the pictures (and then took four more!) and found out that we were expecting a little bundle of joy. We were actually staying in a motel, getting ready to go to Mass, on the day before we left on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, when we found out I was expecting (and let me say that I would never recommend a pilgrimage to the Holy Land at 7 weeks pregnant! Morning sickness and 12 hour a day tours do not mix well!).

Fast forward to last year. I wasn't sure what day of the month it was when I went to the drug store and picked up a test. I was more focused on other things, like the slightly "morning sickness-ish" feeling I'd been having. I hadn't actually missed the start of my new cycle when I took the test and the results came back instantly with two thin blue lines! As I told Paul I glanced at the calender and realized that it was November 3rd! And in that moment, and because of that other moment two years earlier, this day became a very special day for our family!

Saint Martin De Porres pray for us! We're so grateful for these gifts we've received from God!

And that is how November 3rd became a day of celebration for our little family! I think we'll bake a cake, say our family prayers and just have fun! I feel very blessed!

Edited to Add: This isn't an adding year! Sorry, I wasn't clear enough up above! We're making the test a tradition, but I think this is an off year! We took the pictures since it's a yearly tradition now!

  2. CAm - I'm SO happy for you! I've been reading and lurking (I never have enough time!) instead of commenting, and have been praying for you. I got on your site to read any comments from you on the DEFEAT of the vote for legalization (I thought of you all evening yesterday, and I don't know you personally!! I've been praying, and sharing your story with friends here) and you are pregnant!!! AMEN!! So thrilled! CONGRATS dear one!!

    Blessings!

  3. You guys are so sweet! But... I'm sorry about the confusion! We did the post about the feast day in general, but the test was more about doing it on every feast day! This isn't an adding year! Sorry, sorry, sorry about the confusion!

And I AM VERY, VERY, VERY excited about prop 19's defeat!

  4. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who read this post and thought you were announcing baby #3. I was going to comment earlier but I wasn't sure if you were or weren't so I decided against commenting.

Congrats on the Prop 19 defeat!

  7. Well, I like the red dress! Is this the Christa Taylor one you were thinking of getting? How is it for feeding?

  8. Hi Helen-
It is the Christa Taylor one! I actually ended up getting the white and blue striped one first and I loved it so much and the price was so great that I ended up ordering the red one too. I've been wearing them almost every day and they're so comfortable. And the top is high enough that it's fine buttoned up but the buttons go low enough that you can unbutton a few buttons for feeding, which makes it perfect in my book!

I love comments and I read every single comment that comes in (and I try to respond when the little ones aren't distracting me to the point that it's impossible!). Please show kindness to each other and our family in the comment box. After all, we're all real people on the other side of the screen!
