TLC's New Polygamy Show

Wow TLC... wow... and yet I have a feeling that this will definitely draw in viewers.

I'm glad we don't have any sort of TV service. The promo kind of felt like driving past an accident... where you want to look away, but you just can't quite tear your eyes from the wreckage... I do wonder how the whole "secret" part is going to work since they're going on national television.

  1. Seems like TLC (and cable in general) is building on the foundation of trainwreck television.

No wonder there's nothing good on anymore.

  2. I used to watch TLC all the time, it was a family network, blah, blah, blah. Then on Friday I saw that ad for the 1st time. Reality TV, seriously. I was shocked. I get Catholic TV online and I rarely watch TLC anymore.

  3. It's going to be one of those shows where you want to look away, but morbid curiosity will draw people in to watch it. I wonder when TLC is going to follow a perfectly ordinary family. Perhaps they'd like to follow me and call the show Catholic Soccer Mom. People can watch as I try to keep the house clean, and juggle Mass times and soccer games for two kids on a weekly basis.

  4. Funny thing, the thought of polygamy gives me the creeps about as much as Sodom. Maybe it's just because I don't do well in crowds, but I really think polygamy must be seriously disordered.

  5. Yes I saw this on tv the other day and it was horrifying. Whatever society can do to make all of the world relativistic.

  7. Part of me wonders if he really is "legally" married to all of them, or just his "first" wife. I can't imagine that he really is legally married to all of them, because if he was there is no way they would agree to do the show. It would ruin them. Doing the show might ruin them anyway, but that's another story.

I don't know what the draw is, but I know that as you stated it's one of those wreck you can't help but watch.

  8. He's definitely not legally married to all of them--they would have had some kind of private ceremony (not in the church since the LDS 'outlawed' polygamy a long time ago).

Which means the other "wives" are legally considered single mothers and can get all kinds of government assistance as well.

  9. Of course I have to say I am going to watch...I know I know, I really shouldn't give this time time of day because I know it is wrong, but I can't help it. Just like you said, it is like a train wreck. I do not even want to know what they are going to come up with next.

  10. This honestly turned my stomach. I read Escape by Caroline Jessop and this clip jsut made me think of all the horrors she lived through and escaped from. May God have mercy on their souls!

I love comments and I read every single comment that comes in (and I try to respond when the little ones aren't distracting me to the point that it's impossible!). Please show kindness to each other and our family in the comment box. After all, we're all real people on the other side of the screen!
