The Fashion Show in My Living Room....

I wasn't expecting the box that arrived today and shone a little light in my must-survive-until-tomorrow-at-noon cloud of gloom.

As you guys know if you've been around here, I've become a fan of Thred Up.  It offers a solution to the fact that my love of thrifting and deals doesn't match up with the fact that I can't really drag the kids around searching thrift shops these days.  I first stumbled upon it when another blogger wrote about it and I tested it out by using the free $10 that they offer on each customer's first order.  I found a dress for Sadie for less than $10 and just paid the $2.99 shipping and was surprised when a basically new Disney fairy dress arrived at our door.

I wrote up a post about that first dress and a few of you signed up.  When you share Thred Up, if a person signs up, not only do they get a $10 credit, you (or in this case I) do too.  So I've rolled over that credit several times.  Each times I've received a box from Thred Up I've been pleasantly surprised by what I've gotten and I've shared my finds with you (in a "Mom!  Look what I found!  And it was practically free!" sort of way) and a few more people will give it a try and in this way I've pretty much clothed the whole family for winter (almost the whole family... there's no men's section... oh how I wish there were!).

I've actually gotten quite a few offers to blog for various companies over the years and about 80% of the time I turn down the company because it doesn't fit... so if you see a post here it's because I really do like what I'm writing about (and I have a backlog of posts about stuff I've been meaning to write!).  So the fact that I've written this much about it means that I really, really like it.

This last order I put in were three dresses for myself.  One was a silk dress that would have been over $200 from a company called Sundance and the others were from Banana Republic and Calvin Klein.  Altogether it was right around $500 of dress.  Without credit it would have come to right around $70 shipped.

Today the box arrived.  And I'm pretty sure I want to wear the silk dress from Sundance every single day for the rest of my life (that desire will likely be tempered by the fact that it is 100% silk and dry clean only...):

The kids vote for favorite dress seemed to be this one (from Banana Republic).  Maggie kept coming over and putting the crown on my head:

And here's the Calvin Klein dress, which pretty much feels like a mini skirt to me (hence the totally comfortable look on my face).  I think I might add a few inches with a little fun black fabric and lace at the bottom (and this photo totally doesn't do the top justice!):

Sadie was hilarious when I asked her to take pictures for me.  She insisted my hair be like this and wouldn't take the pictures until I took off the hat I wanted to wear.  She's quite the little photographer.

My favorite part of the site has to be that there are actually dresses that I would wear without altering.  That's not easy to find these days in a time when everything either seems to be low cut of too short!

So if you're in to thrift shopping I can't recommend this enough... especially with the first $10 free!  And there is so much on the site for under $10.

    1. Finding sizes has been big for me too. I've ordered a few things that were too big, but I keep telling myself I'll probably be that size again before too long! Although it's destroying my dream of paring down my closet!

  2. Eh. I just handwash dry clean only. Silk does well with that as long as you use a gentle detergent. But than again I dont buy anything remotely expensive so if it does fall apart I dont cry.

Do you want me to pick up a snow suit for Patch? I'd find something for Paul too but I dont know his size. My thrift store is within walking distance. I can usually pop in for about ten minutes or so without issue as I strap the boys down and give them snacks and toys. Do you have enough winter wear? I have some you can borrow. Neither boy is wearing 2T at the moment.

    1. You are so sweet! Paul just used some Christmas money to buy a big heavy Carhart jacket that was on sale at the store and I think Patrick is getting a snow outfit for Christmas too! Poor little guy in his pink! Although I think I enjoyed that way, way too much!

  4. I love that flower dress and the Calvin Klein dress. What fun! Thredup is great...although I ordered something 2 weeks ago and are still waiting for it to arrive..so I'm not impressed with the shipping speed (I guess it takes a lot longer to get to VA than to MI).

    1. They are SUPER slow. Or at least it seems like it's gotten increasingly slow as we've gotten closer to Christmas, because the first two got here pretty quickly.

  5. All three of the dresses look great on you! I keep looking at Thread Up but I haven't ordered anything. I really like to try things on first so I feel like I'm taking a gamble if I order. I may order for the kids some day.

    1. I have to admit that the one thing that makes me braver is the thought that if something is a total fail I'll just cut it up and try to make something else with it. I'm horrible at buying cheap things with fabric that I can imagine as something else and then not doing it!

And I hope your hand is doing better (and all of you!)! This last week was just scary!

  6. Wow! The last two are cute, especially for that price! And no, that third one is far from too short. Enjoy those youthful legs while you still have them!
