{phfr} My First Edition...

round button chicken

{pretty}

It's cold, but I'm still enchanted with the seasons... and the cold...

{happy}

They're like two little peas in a pod.  His little face lights up when he sees his big sister:

{funny}

"What Mom?  I'm just standing here..."

"Just looking at my hands... standing here..."

"Quick!  She's not looking!  Drop all the crayons down the vent!"

{real}

When you have a child who does this on a regular basis, baby gates aren't really all that effective.

Grumpa made some heavy duty baby gates that she couldn't knock over... but she quickly learned to scale them...

So...

I had to improvise:

If I was going to keep her from sneaking behind me and going down to the basement while I was making dinner I had to think of something.  And the solution?  A baby gate on top of the baby gate.  I can see them, they can see me, and they've only broken it down two or three times (and at least I can hear it and stop them from going downstairs to the not toddler proofed laundry room!

  1. Your kids are a challenge like mine. My two adults when toddlers once decided that the younger needed a haircut to match the older, so they snuck over one baby gate, past me, over a second baby gate, into my closet, up a ladder, retrieving the tool box off the shelf, gaining the scissors from said box, and retreating back over two baby gates and PAST ME. I thought they were asleep. I came to check and found a mess of hair everywhere and there was almost not enough left to even it out into a VERY short pixie cut.

    Then there was the time they used the upper bunks to reach the ceiling and attempted to color it black...

  2. I've had days like this, where they seem to be into everything and full of mischief! I love the pics of the snow - so pretty!

  3. I bet putting those wooden storm doors that you can find at Home Depot or Lowes would be a good gate alternative. You'd probably have to add plexi glass instead of the screening, but seeing how Mae seems to get past everything I don't know if that would work for you. She certainly keeps you on your toes!

I love comments and I read every single comment that comes in (and I try to respond when the little ones aren't distracting me to the point that it's impossible!). Please show kindness to each other and our family in the comment box. After all, we're all real people on the other side of the screen!
