Happy New Year!

I was planning a long post last night about New Year's resolutions and maybe making some changes to the blog, but the noisiness of a happy New Year being celebrated outside meant that I was needed in the girls' room, where two screaming bunnies were joining in the noise making, which put everything else, from snood sewing to typing, on hold.  I spent a good deal of time wondering how I could sound proof their window a bit more, because the shrieks were coming through loud and clear over the white noise "womb sounds" bear that we have.  Although it's not like I can really modify a rental, it did give me time to imagine shutters, thicker windows and giant velvet curtains, alongside piles and piles of insulation, before drifting off to sleep.  I'm not sure why the girls' room is so loud anyways.  It's the only part of the house that's really like that!

We did get to take a family walk before the girls went to bed, in the fading light, and that was beautiful!

I will be the first to admit that 2011 is not a year that I am sad to see go and going to bed at 9:30 will mean I'm rested today.  The changing of the year may be symbolic, but as someone who's ready for a fresh start, I'm excited to embrace that symbolic change by making some changes, big and small, in the upcoming year.

The first of those changes will be focusing on living right now, in the moment, rather than wishing that I could fast-forward blank number of months to an imagined time when things might be bit easier!

Now to get ready for Mass!  Happy Solemnity of Mary! And if you have a New Year's Post join the link up party going on at Michelle's Blog Liturgical Time! I just discovered it and it's a new favorite!

  1. I was in a sound proof booth once, for music, and they put egg crate on the walls. Just stapled it up there. That would look really tacky but it is effective. Also, multiple layers of curtains work wonders. Nice thick fabric would be what you need, like velvet. I guess you could drape the whole wall with fabric instead of just the window.

My grandfather soundproofed all the rooms in his house by putting a layer of egg crate on the wall then putting wood paneling over that so you wouldn't see the foam. Maybe that is an option.

    Happy new year!

  3. Happy New Year. Happy Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God.

Noise does seem to wake the wee ones up just when mom and dad want to sleep. Our neighbors had some high powered fireworks going. Sounded like dynamite going off a few times! LOL!

  5. New Years is a good time for beginnings. I'm doing my best to make it happen in my life. I often try to make too many changes the first day and get overwhelmed. I'm asking God to help me tackle things in a more reasonable way this year.

Just thinking of you walking with your children makes me smile.
